Dr. Nguyen obtained her certificate of orthodontics from Jacksonville University in 2010. To stay up-to-date with the most advanced techniques, Dr. Nguyen attends continuing education courses to learn about new technologies and products. At the same time, she strongly believes that preservation of natural dentition and tooth structure should be a priority.

Services We Provide

At Bayou Braces, we offer a variety of comprehensive orthodontic care services using the latest technologies and products. Please take a look at the list of services we provide, below:

Early Treatment

Early treatment isn’t necessary for everyone, but can be extremely beneficial for those who do. Most children can wait for orthodontic treatment until more permanent teeth come in around age 11-13. A consultation with Dr. Nguyen will help determine if early treatment is recommended. Children enrolled in our recall program are typically observed every 6-12 months by Dr. Nguyen.

Early orthodontic treatment typically begins around age 8 or 9, and presents the opportunity to:

  • influence jaw growth
  • improve the width of upper jaw and dental arches
  • improve airway
  • correct harmful crossbites or underbites
  • reduce the need to extract permanent teeth
  • reduce or eliminate the need for jaw surgerycorrect harmful oral habits
  • guide permanent teeth into more favorable positions
  • preserve of gain space for permanent teeth

Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional braces consist of standard metal brackets that are adhered to your teeth with an adhesive and connected by wire. They require periodic tightening so pressure can gradually straighten your teeth and align your jaw as needed. While metal braces brackets are still the most common, we offer several other types of orthodontic treatments at Bayou Braces as well.

Clear/Ceramic Braces

Not all braces are metal. There are several options that are more invisible or at least transparent, and still do the job of straightening your teeth and aligning your bite. In general, clear braces and traditional metal braces function in the same way.

Advantages to Clear Braces

  • Appearance: Clear braces are much less obvious than traditional braces. If you are concerned about aesthetics, this can be a real advantage.
  • Confidence: Knowing that your braces are difficult to see gives you confidence in your smile.

Invisalign

Invisalign offers a cutting-edge approach to orthodontics by using a series of custom-made, invisible aligners. Using 3-D computer imaging, each aligner is specific to your teeth and gradually and gently shift your teeth into place. The best part about the whole process is that most people won’t even know you are wearing the aligners. So you can smile with confidence, both during and after your treatment.

Why Choose Invisalign?

  • Clear – Virtually invisible and do not show up in photos
  • Removable – Eat what you want, when you want
  • Maximum Comfort – Aligners gradually shift teeth, making Invisalign comfortable to wear

TMJ/Splint Therapy

The temporomandibular joint connects the jaw to the skull. Pain in this area is characterized as Temporomandibular Disorder. This joint is similar to many others in the body, and as such, is susceptible to conditions like ankylosis, arthritis, and dislocations.

What are the symptoms?

  • Biting/chewing difficulty or discomfort
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Dizziness
  • Hearing loss
  • Headaches/earaches in the morning
  • Jaw pain or tenderness
  • Reduced ability to open/close the mouth

Jaw Growth Appliances

At Bayou Braces we tailor your jaw care to your individual situation. Using the top-of-the-line jaw growth appliances Dr. Nguyen is able to design a treatment plan for your specific needs. Some of the appliances are removable and others are fixed. At first these appliances can cause some discomfort. Wearing them regularly will be beneficial in shortening the amount of time needed for treatment and will help you adjust to the appliances.

Some of the appliance we use include:

  • Herbst Appliance
  • Forsus (Bite Fixer)
  • Facemask

Sleep Apnea Treatment

Sleep apnea is a disorder characterized by abnormal pauses in breathing or instances of abnormally low breathing during sleep. Each lapse in breathing can last ten seconds to multiple minutes, and may occur 5 to 30+ times an hour. This disorder prevents deep sleep that refreshes the body, and sufferers are frequently drowsy during the day.

Symptoms of Sleep Apnea include:

  • Daytime fatigue
  • Slower reaction time
  • Vision problems
  • Difficulty paying attention or working effectively
  • Insomnia or difficulty sleeping
  • Sleep paralysis
  • Loud snoring at night
  • Waking up at night short of breath
  • Snorting or choking sounds during the night
  • Headaches in the morning

Six Month Smiles

Get straight teeth FAST! Don’t be embarrassed by your smile, do something about it.

Most adults are hesitant to wear metal braces for years. They might also worry that corrective teeth straightening is going to be too invasive or too expensive. That is no longer the case. Six Month Smiles is the solution.

Frequently Asked Questions

What will I learn from the initial examination?

There are five essential questions that we will cover during the initial examination:

  • Is there an orthodontic problem, and if so, what is it?
  • What must be done to correct the problem?
  • Will any teeth need to be removed?
  • How long will the treatment take to complete?
  • How much will the treatment cost?

How often will I have appointments?

We average 6-8 weeks between visits, though it depends on the case and treatment plan. In the beginning of treatment, some patients need to be seen more frequently, while others have long (10-12 weeks) intervals between appointments. As we get closer to finishing your treatment, appointments become more frequent. When we factor all visits together, we average about 6 weeks between appointments.

Do braces hurt?

Generally, braces do not “hurt.” After certain visits, teeth may be sore for a few days. In these situations, pain medications such as Advil or Tylenol will ease the discomfort. However, after most visits, patients do not feel any soreness at all! We often remind our patients, “It does not have to hurt to work!” Our office uses orthodontic technology which utilizes light forces, which has significantly reduced treatment tenderness for our patients.

How much do braces cost? Are orthodontic financing options available? How does my insurance work?
