Harvey, LA Residents: How to Keep Your Smile Healthy with Braces?

If you just got braces and live in Harvey, LA, you’re on your way toward a happier, more confident smile. However, you need more than just a visit to your local orthodontist, Harvey, for adjustments to maintain the health of your smile while receiving braces treatment.

To ensure that your braces perform exactly as required and that your teeth and gums stay in excellent shape during the process, proper teeth care with braces is important. In this article, we’ll provide important braces tips and guidance to ensure proper braces care, and additionally give useful details on braces cleaning and dental checkups Harvey.

Why Proper Braces Cleaning is Crucial

Harvey, LA Residents: How to Keep Your Smile Healthy with Braces?

Cleaning your teeth properly can be very difficult if you are wearing braces. Your braces’ brackets, wires, and bands can collect food bits and plaque, leading to gum disease, tooth decay, or even discoloration. This is why you need to keep maintaining a proper cleaning routine for your braces.

Food particles can get stuck in your braces with every bite, and if not removed properly, they can lead to dental plaque. Plaque carries bacteria that, if left unchecked, can cause cavities and gum disease. It takes more care to brush your teeth while wearing braces.

Furthermore, flossing must be done every day. Although it may seem difficult, flossing while wearing braces is simple if you have the right tools and techniques. You may maintain proper dental hygiene with braces by using orthodontic floss and special floss threaders to go between the wires and brackets.

Braces Tips: How to Maintain Healthy Teeth with Braces

Harvey, LA Residents: How to Keep Your Smile Healthy with Braces?

Brushing regularly isn’t the only way to keep your teeth and braces clean. To ensure a smooth treatment process, each Harvey citizen should be familiar with additional braces care requirements.

1. Brush After Every Meal

When wearing braces, it is important that you brush your teeth after each meal. Food should be removed as quickly as possible because it can easily become stuck in the wires and brackets. Bring a travel toothbrush and toothpaste to brush your teeth at work or school after lunch. You can lower your chance of getting cavities and keep the freshness of your mouth by following these steps.

2. Use an Interdental Brush

Think about using an interdental brush in place of a regular toothbrush. Where regular brushes might not be able to reach, this tiny brush is made to clean in between your teeth and around your braces. It’s a useful tool for keeping clean, plaque-free teeth.

3. Rinse with Mouthwash

It is possible to remove bacteria and reach areas that brushing and flossing may fail to reach by using a good mouthwash every day. To avoid drying out your mouth, choose a mouthwash that doesn’t include alcohol. You can prevent cavities and maintain fresh breath by using mouthwash.

4. Avoid Certain Foods

When wearing braces, you must be careful what you eat. Foods that are hard, chewy, or sticky can break or harm your braces. Avoid eating popcorn kernels, caramel, and gum, as they can cause wires to shift or become lodged in your braces. There are many tasty braces-friendly options in Harvey, LA, but always be careful to check what’s suitable to eat before treating yourself.

5. Use Orthodontic Wax for Comfort

The inside of your mouth can get irritated by braces, particularly in their initial stages. You may use orthodontic wax if the brackets or wires are uncomfortable. All you have to do is tear out a tiny bit of the wax and cover the problem brackets. Your day will be more comfortable as a result of this, which will help decrease discomfort.

The Importance of Regular Dental Checkups Harvey

Your braces Cleaning is important, but so are routine checkups with your local orthodontist, Harvey. Your orthodontist will keep up to date on your orthodontic progress and readjust your braces as required. These modifications can help rearrange your teeth by moving them into the proper position.

You still need to schedule routine checkups with your dentist in addition to your orthodontic appointments. By seeking symptoms of gum disease, tooth decay, or other conditions that can compromise the duration of treatment, your dentist will help to ensure your complete oral health is on track.

Maintaining a Healthy Smile with Braces

You don’t have to give up your smile to wear braces. You can maintain a bright and beautiful smile for the duration of the treatment with the right braces care.

1. Stay Consistent with Your Brushing Routine

Maintaining consistency is required for a healthy smile with braces. Stick to your schedule and wash your teeth daily for at least two minutes each time until it becomes a habit. To help reduce cavities, use toothpaste that contains fluoride.

2. Watch for Signs of Problems

Look for any signs that your braces may not be functioning properly. Get in step with your orthodontist quickly if you notice a wire protruding from your mouth, a loose bracket, or if your teeth are not moving. The sooner you notice an issue, the simpler it will be to fix.

3. Wear Your Retainer as Directed

Your orthodontist is likely to recommend using a retainer to help keep your teeth in their proper positions after your braces have been removed. It is important to wear your retainer as directed to maintain your teeth’s alignment and have a healthy smile for many more years to come.

The Role of Your Local Orthodontist in Harvey

While wearing braces, it is important to visit your local orthodontist, Harvey, to keep your smile healthy. They are the experts in orthodontic care, Harvey, and can guide you through each step of the procedure. Your orthodontist will be available to answer any questions and help you achieve the best possible outcomes from your first visit until your braces are finally removed.

An experienced orthodontist will answer any orthodontic FAQs, give you the tools you need to maintain a healthy and clean mouth, and give you braces tips and information on how to take care of your braces.

Our 5-Star Experience

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let some of our patients do it for us! Over the years, our team has helped many patients create amazing smiles and healthy mouths beyond their wildest dreams.

Updated response: I am extremely disappointed in the service I have received. I was originally scheduled to have my braces removed in April 2025, yet my bottom row is now completely crooked... and I have developed new spaces in my top row. The issues are clearly visible, but I constantly have to point them out myself instead of them being proactively addressed by the staff.During my recent appointment, the staff was also confused as to why my power chains had not been placed correctly on my teeth for my previous appointment. Additionally, the actual orthodontist barely completes any work in my mouth personally, which likely contributes to why everything feels so disorganized and inconsistent.I am also concerned because braces being left on for too long can cause additional issues such as teeth shifting incorrectly, new spacing, bite problems, gum issues, and even potential root damage. Instead of seeing improvement, I feel like my teeth have progressively worsened throughout treatment. In addition, I requested documentation regarding my appointments and treatment history and was told that I could not be provided with that information, despite the fact that I paid 95% of my balance within the first two months in January 2025.Overall, this experience has been extremely frustrating and disappointing, especially considering the amount of time and money I have invested into my treatment. At this point, I feel unheard as a patient and disappointed with the level of care, professionalism, and communication I have received.First Review: I came to Bayou Braces after already having braces previously and being about 90% done with treatment. When I started here, I was expecting to be finished around May 2025, and I was also told that if I completed my payments early there was a possibility treatment would be completed prior to that date. Unfortunately, that timeline has not been met. Many of my recent appointments feel very rushed, and it often doesn’t seem like much progress is being made toward finishing treatment. During one visit, I was also cut on the face while an assistant was placing a wire, which caused bleeding and was concerning.Additionally, communication within the office sometimes feels like a game of ‘telephone,’ where information is passed between multiple staff members and can lead to confusion or things not being done correctly in regard to treatment. I also was not informed that continuing treatment here would take this long, especially considering I was already close to finishing when I started. I hope the office can improve communication and take more time with patients during appointments.read more

    Accessibility Statement

    • bayoubraces.com
    • May 21, 2026

    Compliance status

We firmly believe that the internet should be available and accessible to anyone, and are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of circumstance and ability.

To fulfill this, we aim to adhere as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level. These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible to all people: blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more.

This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.

Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML, adapts Its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by the blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments.

If you’ve found a malfunction or have ideas for improvement, we’ll be happy to hear from you. You can reach out to the website’s operators by using the following email

    Screen-reader and keyboard navigation

Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements, alongside console screenshots of code examples:

    1. Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website.

These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.

    2. Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside it.

Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

    • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
    • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
    • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
    • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
    • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
    • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

    1. Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
    2. Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over seven different coloring options.
    3. Animations – person with epilepsy can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
    4. Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
    5. Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
    6. Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
    7. Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

    Browser and assistive technology compatibility

We aim to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers).

    Notes, comments, and feedback

Despite our very best efforts to allow anybody to adjust the website to their needs. There may still be pages or sections that are not fully accessible, are in the process of becoming accessible, or are lacking an adequate technological solution to make them accessible. Still, we are continually improving our accessibility, adding, updating and improving its options and features, and developing and adopting new technologies. All this is meant to reach the optimal level of accessibility, following technological advancements. For any assistance, please reach out to
